We’ve just learned of a family that is in real distress and needs our help. A divorced mother and her four children, including an autistic child, live off her salary as a nurse. A few months ago she was diagnosed with a heart problem that will require surgery. Her health insurance covers the medical expenses but there is no one to take care of the family.
Recently, she was hit driving out of a parking lot, and her car was totaled. She had no insurance and is now without a car and is laid up in bed.
The family has many needs, but we are going to provide them with a $1,000 to help them get back on their feet. Won’t you join us in this effort?
For just $.25 or $1 per day you can make a huge impact in the life of a family in your community.

Through the simple act of giving.
Dear friend:
It hit me one day while I was stuck in horrible Atlanta rush-hour traffic. It had been a busy day in the office and I was rushing home for dinner with my family.
By any definition, my life was good. Business was booming, my wife and kids were doing great...but as I sat there with thousands of other drivers, I felt a giant emptiness.
Is this really all life has to offer?
On the radio I was listening to a tough story about a local family that was in a world of hurt. Their son was in desperate need of some very complicated and expensive medical procedure and the family simply didn’t have the income to provide the service.
It was a bleak story and I was in no mood to be further depressed. I reached to change the station when the story unexpectedly took a very upbeat turn.
An anonymous white knight had heard about the family’s situation and made a donation that would fully fund the child’s medical care.
The family was over-the-moon. The whole thing put a little smile on my face.
As I sat in my car, I realized that there was more than one winner in this story. The family had the weight of the world lifted off them from the simple generosity of a benevolent stranger. I bet that somewhere that stranger had a smile on his face as well.
ReplyDeleteAs I plodded along in the bumper-to-bumper traffic, the gears started moving in my mind. Could a simple act of kindness fill the void I felt in my own life?
Why should the super rich have all the fun?
For generations, entrepreneurs, industrialists, and wealthy heirs have started foundations to give back to the society that helped them achieve their financial goals.
Their motivations have probably been a mix of things...guilt, sense of duty, religion, generosity, etc. But I bet that at the core, many give because they feel great doing it. The simple act of helping others fills the great void they have in their own lives.
ReplyDeleteAs I’ve researched countless foundations, I keep coming across this same tendency of the ultra-rich.
It sounds great -- but how can an ordinary guy like me make an impact and feel great about doing it. I’m not a Rockefeller!
A Meaningful Existence
I’m pleased to report that I’ve found a way to add meaning to my life. I’m helping others and I feel great doing it (and I didn’t have to win the lottery to do it!).
I’ve changed my life by becoming involved with a new kind of foundation...one for ordinary folks who want to participate in extraordinary acts.
I want to introduce you to 1 Act Per Day...an organization that has changed my life and one that I believe can help bring real meaning to yours.
Battling Charcot-Marie-Tooth
The members of 1 Act of Kindness received some excellent news this morning via our foundations email newsletter.
We have just helped a beautiful 27 year-old woman who is afflicted with a debilitating neuro-muscular disease called Charcot-Marie-Tooth. The disease has left her with limited use of her legs and hands, forcing her to use a scooter for mobility. She is unable to work and lives on a Social Security check of less than $600 a month. She has a desperate need to install access ramps throughout her house so she will be able to access the outside world with her scooter. This wonderful woman has selflessly dedicated her life to helping others with the same disease. I am pleased to report that 1 Act Per Day is going to send this brave young woman $1,000 to help her make her home handicap accessible...so she can continue the battle against Charcot-Marie-Tooth.
ReplyDeleteI can’t describe how happy I am to be part of the organization that helped this woman. More specifically -- I’m happy that I helped woman!
My small donation -- a small piece of myself is going to help her go great distances.
Your small daily donation can do the same making a ripple effect that has a real meaning in the lives of those in need.
Everything Counts in Small Amounts
The One Act Per Day team is committed to making the world a better place -- every single day.
We don’t give huge amounts of money to large charitable funds. We’re a small organization that focuses on making a direct impact on people who need help getting back on their feet.
We search out individual families...often those in our own communities...who need our help.
Consider this family that we met just two weeks ago...
A mother of seven wonderful children has a six year old who was born with damage to his brain--the medical term for which is Spastic Athetoid quadriplegia.
He is a quadriplegic and does not speak nor walk. He is in need of round the clock assistance. The family moved into a ground level home and needs to make it wheelchair accessible. In addition, he needs expensive medical equipment and treatment. The family's debt is monstrous.
Our $1,000 donation has helped ease their burden and given some peace to this beautiful family.
Our goal is not to solve all world’s suffering and poverty, but simply to change a few family's lives for the better. You know it is said that if you save one life, you save the world.
Understanding and acting on this concept will truly bring meaning in your life. I know that if you join our team and bring your friends along as well you will soon feel the ripple effect of kindness.
A world so filled with crime and tragedy can now be filled with people seeking meaning, and a desire to look outside of themselves to help others. This in truth is what makes One Act Per Day different from any other charitable fund.
